I still use Obsidian for a few things but as I've learned to use Craft better I've used it less and less. But for me, it's been far more productive and useful than Obsidian and the sharing functionality is unmatched. I also benefited from learning Data Science with Jupyter Notebooks at the same time I picked up Craft which uses a very similar block structure, something I believe Craft must have been partly inspired by. If you don't like it you definitely don't need to use this by the way, I just found that I also ran into those same difficulties and it took me a bit to figure out how to utilize the program effectively. Instead of selecting all of the blocks, only select the blocks you want to create a toggle for then use the "/toggle" command to change only those blocks to a toggle. You can also use this same "Cmd" select method to fix your toggle issue as well. Then edit in the same way as before using "/" commands. Simply exit text mode once again using Esc, then click on all the blocks you want to edit while holding "Cmd". You can also do this for blocks that aren't next to each other, though you will need to use a mouse/trackpad. You can also change any other style setting using this command. Once selected, release shift and use the "/" command to change the color. Navigate to the first or last block you want to change using the arrow keys, and hold Shift while clicking the arrow keys to select multiple blocks. If the blocks are next to each other, hit Esc to end text edit mode. While annoying, Obsidian doesn't even have these easy color changing options at all so it's a give and take for sure.Īlso, you can actually change the color of multiple blocks at the same time using the "/color" command. You can go really far without highlighting if you utilize the blocks and focusing I find since you can use the "/color" command on a block while in select mode (not editing text) and it will change the color of the block, not the text itself. Unfortunately choosing a highlight color is one of the only things that you can't do directly from the keyboard I've found so I generally just rely on text coloring, font size, or focus/blocks for most things and use a standard yellow highlight if I really want to use it. Plus, as a Mac+Android guy, I need a cross-platform app. But, for me, working in Craft is still just too much work. I wish Craft could work for me because I really want the separate Spaces, collaboration, tabbed browsing, and page-bottom backlinks. (Or using the color example, I can't highlight two blocks and easily change the color of their text.) It also makes me crazy that Craft can't correctly handle YYYY-MM-DD dates, and that you can't color parts of a block (only "highlight"), and there's no way to select a few blocks and turn them into a toggled section without having every sub-block also become toggled. It always takes me 2-3 times longer to create a document in Craft than in any other app, because, for example, it's way too easy to accidentally move text you're just trying to select. Block-based editing is fantastic for linking and referencing directly to a particular part of a note - once a note is complete - but it's a pain in the ass for actual writing and text management. I just find Craft too much work in general. (But if you do that in Craft, you replace the text with "/blue" instead.) Is there a shortcut like that for highlighting colors? Because that's a PITA is Craft as well. It would have never even crossed my mind do use /blue that way, without first highlighting the text I want to change.
